with graduation day looming ever closer(end of this year or probably towards March of next year), i've come to face the dilemna, of not knowing with field i'd like to specialise in.
Generally Malaysian employers look for students who can pretty much do anything(every part of the pipeline). However, if you wish to be successful, you definitely have to have a specialised skill. Two at most.
And as an animation student at the one academy, we are exposed to a variety of skills, which are so very interesting. This makes the choice of choosing a permanent interest difficult
Currently, my interest lies in:
1. Concept art + 3d Modelling (normally works hand in hand)(but is very very competitive)
2. 3d animation (in demand, and very interesting, but also extremely taxing)
3. Editing and compositing/VFX(special effects) (post production allows more variety of work compared to pure animation and is also in demand)
4. Cinematography (this is new to me, but i find it really stimulating)
The most logical choice for me now, would be to have, editting and compositing as my primary skill, with concept art + 3d modelling as my secondary
I've scrapped off from my list : 2d animation, typography, copywriting, graphic design
Pls spread this discussion around. I'll keep this discussion open for a month.
Any comments would be much appreciated.
